Kindergarten

Student/Teacher Ratio 16:2

In our Kindergarten, we utilize the Orton-Gillingham approach along with Wilson Fundations comprehensive reading, spelling and handwriting programs to develop reading readiness and emergent literacy skills augmented through guided literature selections and writer’s workshop. Kindergartners continue to extend their basic math understanding through Everyday Mathematics and the use of multi-sensory arithmetic materials.  Students learn the math concepts of: Cardinality; One-to-one correspondence; two and three-dimensional shapes; Creating sets using tens frames and manipulative materials; Part/whole relationships using Number Bonds; Composing/Decomposing Numbers within 10; Place value of numbers 1-20; and Measurable attributes- more than/less than, height, length.

Students delve into a long-term study on foreign countries and cultures through their participation in country visits, which represents their social studies curriculum. They participate in Chapel, Art, Music, Science/STEM and Library/Spanish Immersion weekly. Our Kindergarteners serve as weekly acolytes during our chapel service and perform the leading roles in the preschool’s annual Christmas pageant. Children matriculate on to 1st grade or another year of Kindergarten depending on their birthdate and readiness. A small group-size, along with Master’s Level trained teachers, who individualize curriculum to specific learners, are beneficial to our students. The year ends with their very first graduation. Our program is accredited by Cognia, formerly AdvancED/Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
