Our Mission
Cathedral Preschool’s mission is to nurture the development of the whole child—emotionally, intellectually, socially, physically, and spiritually—through a thoughtfully designed, age-appropriate curriculum. Fostering creativity, exploration, and independence, we also emphasize building healthy relationships and cultivating a strong sense of self. Each child is encouraged to reach their full, unique potential as a child of God, equipped to navigate and shape an ever-evolving world with imagination and grace.
Our Vision
Cathedral Preschool strives for excellence in early childhood education, cultivating a vibrant, inclusive community where curiosity drives lifelong learning. Our vision is to inspire young learners to become compassionate, confident leaders who approach the world with a deep sense of purpose, empathy, and wonder. We aim to set the foundation for children to thrive as resilient, innovative thinkers, who embody and share Christ’s love.
Our Core Values
Experiential Learning
• We believe in the power of authentic, hands-on learning to promote both academic readiness and social-emotional growth.
• We affirm that the success of our students is built on the foundation of highly qualified and compassionate teachers, support staff, and administration who promote a journey of discovery and critical thinking.
Community
• We believe in the strength of a supportive community, where every child, family, and staff member feels valued and connected.
• We honor the critical role of the home-school connection, knowing that strong partnerships between parents and educators are essential to our students' success.
Diversity & Inclusion
• We believe in the dignity of every human being and are committed to creating an environment of diversity and inclusion where all students, regardless of their race, religion, ethnicity, background, or ability, feel seen, heard, and respected.
• Anchored in our Episcopal educational principles, we are guided by justice, peace, and equality in all relationships, actively working to ensure that every child experiences a sense of belonging.
• We are committed to creating a classroom experience that celebrates differences and nurtures empathy, understanding, and collaboration among all learners.
Our Weekly Chapel
Students attend a weekly Chapel service on Wednesdays for MWF Twos, Threes, Pre-Kindergarten, and Kindergarten students. A separate chapel is held on Thursdays for our Toddler and Two year-old students. Informed by the Episcopal Book of Common Prayer, the service is a developmentally appropriate, music filled celebration of God’s love, providing inspiration for children to build their faith and outward examples of Christ’s love for others. An inclusive, Christian community, The Cathedral Preschool welcomes and embraces all people with warmth and authentic hospitality. Kindergarteners serve as acolytes, and cross bearers, while Pre-Kindergarteners ring the chime to signal the start of Chapel. Parents are invited to attend Chapel services.
Our Facilities
The Cathedral Preschool is located in beautiful, modern facilities constructed in 2004 at Atlanta’s Episcopal Cathedral of St. Philip. Children learn and play in classrooms that are spacious, bright and colorful and generously supplied with curricular material, age-appropriate toys and tools for creative learning. The Children’s Chapel is located in the heart of the school and is used for parent education programs as well as weekly, age-appropriate services. Children play on two well-maintained playgrounds as well as an indoor play space. Music, Science, Library and Art classes are taught by talented resource teachers and are held in dedicated classrooms that provide multi-sensory learning opportunities. The Outdoor Classroom provides opportunities for children to build stewardship skills for the environment while engaging in life science and STEM learning.
Our History
The Cathedral Preschool is a Christian, not-for-profit organization established in 1970 at The Cathedral of St. Philip. What began as The Cathedral Playgroup in 1970 has grown into what is now The Cathedral Preschool – a highly regarded Atlanta preschool accredited by AdvancED/SACS/Cognia.
The Cathedral Preschool enjoys a rewarding, mutually beneficial relationship with the Cathedral of St. Philip. However, the Preschool is a separately incorporated parochial entity, and it has its own by-laws, Board of Directors, operates independently and makes all of its own admissions and operations decisions.
